Part-Time Senior Estimator – Construction & Architectural Fabrication (Remote)

Key Responsibilities
Estimating & take-offs: Produce accurate quantities, BOQs, and build-ups from drawings/specs; issue RFIs for clarifications.
Process-aware pricing: Build time/cost models for laser cutting, bending/press-brake, welding (MIG/TIG), finishing, glazing, and assembly.
Profile systems: Prepare quotes for slimline steel/aluminium door and screen systems, hardware, and fire/smoke-rated glazing compositions.
Supplier & subcontractor liaison: Obtain material and process quotes; compare, negotiate, and lock in lead times.
Value engineering: Offer alternatives, standardise parts, and optimise nests and batch quantities for cost and delivery.
Handover & follow-up: Present clear assumptions/exclusions, risk notes, and programme; support sales handover and client queries.
On-site surveys: Attend site to measure/validate as required; produce survey notes and sketches.
Job Description
We’re seeking an advanced estimator to price construction and architectural metalwork—especially slimline/profile door & screen systems and high-volume production parts. This role suits a highly experienced professional (including those approaching retirement) who wants to do meaningful work in a positive, well-run environment. The position is remote two days per week to start, with potential to grow.
Requirements
Significant estimating experience in construction/architectural fabrication or metalwork manufacturing.
Strong understanding of profile systems, high-quantity production, and shop processes (laser cutting, bending, welding, finishing).
Confident reading technical drawings and specifications; precise digital take-offs and logical cost build-ups.
Skilled with estimating/quoting software and advanced spreadsheets; clear written proposals.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to conduct on-site surveys.
Professional communication, integrity, and dependable follow-through.
Advantageous Skills
Existing client portfolio or contacts you can bring across.
Experience with fire-rated/slimline door & screen assemblies and associated hardware/glazing.
Familiarity with EN 1090/UKCA, factory production control, and common contract forms.
CAD/mark-up competence (e.g., PDF take-off tools), nesting awareness, or ERP/MRP exposure.
Employment Type & Compensation
Part-time, remote (2 days/week initially) — potential to increase.
Engagement: Day rate or pro-rata salary (DOE).
