Advanced MIG/TIG Welder–Sheet Metal Fabricator
Key Responsibilities
Drawings & WPS: Interpret drawings, weld symbols, and WPS; create/verify cutting lists; mark out and prep edges (de-burr, bevel, clean).
Sheet-metal forming: Select tooling and set CNC/manual press-brakes; account for bend allowance/K-factor and spring-back; verify radii and angles.
Fit-up & jigs: Build/adjust simple jigs/fixtures, control root gaps and squareness, check diagonals/flatness before tacking.
Advanced welding:
> Stainless: TIG/MIG on 304/316; manage heat input; use argon back-purging on critical roots.
> Aluminium: AC TIG on 5xxx/6xxx; MIG using push-pull/spool or optimised liners; set AC balance/frequency and appropriate transfer modes.
> Mild steel / production: High-volume MIG to takt time using fixtures, maintaining consistent bead profile and dimensions.
Distortion control: Apply balanced sequences, stitch/back-step, heat sinks, and clamping to keep parts true.
Finishing: Dress/grind to spec; arrange stainless clean-down/pickling/passivation as required; prepare parts for coating/installation.
Quality & records: First-off and in-process checks to tolerance (typically ±0.5–1.0 mm), visual acceptance to shop standards, simple traceability/weld maps.
Safety & care: Use LEV/fume control and PPE; maintain torches, tungstens, liners, contact tips, press-brake tooling; report issues early.
Continuous improvement & support: Suggest process/jig improvements and mentor mid-level team members.
Job Description
We’re hiring an experienced welder–sheet metal fabricator to deliver high-integrity stainless, aluminium, and mild-steel fabrications. You’ll work from drawings and WPS, set up your own press-brake tooling and jigs, and produce cosmetically clean, structurally sound welds using TIG (including AC on aluminium) and MIG (including pulse/spray where appropriate). Work ranges from precision one-offs to small batches and high-volume steel runs, with tight tolerances, minimal distortion, and tidy finishing.
About The Ritual Works
The Ritual Works is a fabrication company that specialises in providing manufacturing solutions to various industries, from roofing and cladding and electrical engineering to architecture, the automotive industry, catering and medical. We take the best of traditional techniques and streamline them using state-of-the-art machinery and equipment. We fully embrace innovation and investment back into our factory and our staff. The Ritual Works is a place for people to learn, strive and excel in their talents.
Requirements
5+ years proven experience as a Welder–Fabricator with a sheet-metal focus.
High proficiency in TIG and MIG, including AC TIG on aluminium and TIG/MIG on stainless; confident across thin- to medium-gauge work (≈1.0–8.0 mm).
Strong knowledge of metals and behaviour under heat (mild steel, 304/316 stainless, 5xxx/6xxx aluminium).
Press-brake setup (tooling selection, bend allowance/K-factor) and basic rolling/forming experience.
Able to read drawings and weld symbols, work orders, and hold stated tolerances.
Skilled with welding/fabrication equipment: TIG/MIG sets (incl. pulse), jigs/fixtures, saws, drills, grinders, and metrology tools.
Problem-solver with fit-up, consumables, and parameter troubleshooting; proactive on distortion control.
Safety-first mindset (PPE, LEV, hot-work procedures) and tidy, accurate workmanship.
Excellent teamwork and communication; willing to share best practice.
Nice to have: Current/valid ISO 9606-1 (steels) and/or ISO 9606-2 (aluminium) coding, and familiarity with WPS/PQR and visual acceptance levels.
Advantageous Skills
CNC press-brake setup/programming for Amada, including bend allowance/K-factor and spring-back compensation.
Experience with argon back-purging for stainless roots and simple passivation routines.
Advanced TIG techniques (pulse, thin-gauge ≤1.5 mm) and aluminium AC TIG optimisation (balance/frequency); aluminium MIG with push-pull/spool gun.
Interest in progressing toward coded welder qualifications (training support available).
Stainless finishing: blending/polishing to cosmetic standards, weld cleaning, pickling/passivation.
Experience with LEAN/5S, in-process QC, traceability; awareness of ISO 3834/ EN 1090 contexts.
Comfortable with purge setups for stainless (back-purging, purge dams) and gas lens/nozzle selection.
Basic CAD/CAM literacy (reading DXFs, simple flat patterns) and nesting awareness.
Competent with overhead cranes/forklifts, safe slinging/signalling certifications.
Interview & Practical Test
As part of the interview process, you’ll complete a practical TIG welding test:
Material & joints: 2–3 mm stainless steel (304) fillet and butt samples; an aluminium AC TIG sample may be included.
Positions: Primarily PA/PB on bench, with basic jigging/fit-up.
What we assess: Joint prep and cleanliness, parameter setup (including AC balance for aluminium), bead consistency, fusion/penetration, heat input/distortion control, and overall finish.
Checks: Visual inspection to our internal acceptance criteria and simple dimensional checks (flatness, squareness).
Employment Type & Compensation
Full-time (38 hours/week)
Salary: Competitive/DOE, with progression linked to skills and qualifications
4-day weeks (Mon-Thu/8am-18pm)
